Get out of Cancun & Playa Del Carmen because Tulum seems to be the new hotspot. They cater for both lux and budget accommodations. We stayed at Azulik which boasts amazing views of the ocean while sitting in your own personal bath tub on your deck. They have no electricity at night which at first, honestly, I was a little scared of but lying in bed reading my book by candle light listening to the sounds of the ocean was just perfect. If I could do it all over again, I would. It is the perfect honeymoon spot, if you are looking for kid friendly, then this is NOT the spot for you but you can head next door to the Papaya Playa Project.
I didn't try the Temazcal (traditional sweat lodge) but ill be leaving it to the next trip. The town is a short drive away of you wanna get off the touristy beachy area. Tacos, tortas & tamales are a must try for a few dollars. Eat in the town if you are on a budget, if you have some extra cash to spend, head to this amazing outdoor restaurant called Hartwood. Local, fresh ingredients are used by this New York chef, incredible flavours, plenty of seafood & the friendlist of staff.
Tulum gets the thumbs up! Azulik, given the opporunity, I will be back in a flash.
