Portraits of Christina

Last friday, I asked Christina if I could do a shoot with her. Little did I know we were going to be battling a mini blizzard and a freezing cold day. We didnt stray far just to our local Jeanne Mance park which was covered in about a foot of snow. My fingers werent too happy either by the end of the hour. Here is what I shot that day and a huge thanks to Christina for braving the cold and trudging through the snow minus some well needed winter boots. Youre a star!!!

100 Strangers Project Part 5

Meet Christopher Enriquez

Meet my strangers, part 5: Christopher Enriquez. Christopher hails from Toronto and is a huge Maple Leafs fan which is not so good for him living in Montréal with all the Habs fans. He is about to turn 19 next week, so happy birthday Christopher. He is a student at Mcgill University studying Chemical Engineering. He is a freshman so he has only lived in Montréal about 4 months now. He was amazing on skates so I asked how long he had been ice skating, but he said he rollerblades a lot during the summer. So here is my shoot with Christopher. Thanks again to Chris for being so amazing today. To visit my website please go to

100 Strangers Project Part 4

Meet Zoé Upjohn:
Meet my strangers, part 4: Zoé Upjohn. Zoé is from Geneva, Switzerland. She is on vacation with her parents in Montréal for the next 8 months. They have only been in Montréal a week now. Her mom is on teacher sabbatical so they will stay here and hang out with her older sister who lives in Montréal. Zoé is only 9 years old, doesnt speak English so our shoot was translated by her mom. She told me that she was taught to skate by her older sister when she was 7 years old. Her favourite thing so far about Montréal are the huge ice rinks because she said in Geneva they only skate on a small lake. These photos were taken in Parc La Fontaine while I was also on skates. It was my first shoot on skates and it was extremely difficult but here is what I managed to capture while trying to keep my balance. I especially love these as you can see Zoé's parents in the background. Many thanks to Zoé and her family for letting me be snap happy today.

100 Strangers Project Part 3

Meet my strangers, part 3: René Vaillancourt (aka Billy Elliot). I met René on my way home from Parc La Fontaine today. He was out on break, from Reanud Bray where he is a bookseller. He was a great subject and very easy going. He told me that he is studying French literature at University of Montréal. After he learned I was Irish, he started naming off all the fantastic Irish writers and he even had heard of Seamus Heaney and John B Keane. He was totally impressed that John B's daughter was my English teacher in secondary school. René now resides in Montréal but was born in Québec city, where he spent a lot of his childhood. He went on to joke about Irish people and the movie Billy Elliot. He told me that I should call him Billy Elliot in this introduction. This picture was taken on the corner of St Denis and Marie Ann.

100 Strangers Project Part 2

Meet my strangers, part 2: Chantal Prévost. I approached her while she was walking her dog Tipou in Parc La Fontaine. She was nice enough to pose for me. She told me that she is married with a 10 yr old daughter who was not with her because she was playing with friends and she that she works as a secretary/teacher at a school near the Plateau that teaches adult courses. She lives in the Plateau and walks Tipou there often, her very cute dog who is 3 years old. While taking pics of Chantal and Tipou, he was very distracted by both other dogs and pigeons that were flying around us. This pic was taken in Parc La Fontaine.

100 Strangers Project Part 1

Today I started a new project. I am going to take photos of 100 strangers. I get a rough 5 min window depending on how willing they are to take a picture and ask them about themselves. So today I began and it was a little scary just walking up to someone and telling them about my project in hopes they would be willing to let me photograph them.

Meet my strangers, Part 1: Jonathan Gagné and Michele Belzile. Both Jonathan and Michele live in Montréal. They have been dating for the past 6 months but they have been friends for 10 years. Jonathan is a construction worker here in Montréal working also in the cold harsh winters that the city offers. Michele is studying at UQAM and works part time as a waitress downtown to help pay for school. This photo was taken at Lac Castor on Mont Royal.
