Aoife & Kim!

You might remember my Oldport Engagement session with Aoife and Kim from a few weeks ago. This time we travelled to Boston for their wedding, which took place on July 6th at a beautiful private estate. What an incredible location. It was absolutely perfect and reminiscent of the grounds of Muckross House, an estate near Aoife's family home in Ireland. The sun was splitting the stones and why wouldn't it be, with these two love birds about to enter into wedded bliss.

This was a day they had been waiting for since their proposal on the breakwater in P-Town, in the middle of the winter. So much planning had gone into this day and it had finally arrived. Family came from all over Europe and the States to celebrate with these two.

Aoife and Kim got ready at separate houses. Aoife's sister Orla did her hair and her mom did her make up, keeping it as natural as possible, just like she wanted. Kim did her own hair and her friend Kristy did her make up.

The girls opted for a first look before guests and family arrived. Aoife waited patiently for Kim outside the estates big, red doors. Kim counted to ten, exhaled deeply and walked out the door to see Aoife in her dress for the first time. They had wondered what each others' dresses would look like and now they knew. Their eyes welled with tears. "Don't make me cry! I don't want to ruin my make up!" They held each other for a long time, taking in this special moment.

Once they finally parted, we headed down the hill to the boardwalk, set among bright green trees on the verge of a river. It was picture-perfect, two white dresses drowned in summer greens and yellows.

The ceremony took place in the sunny estate courtyard. Aoife and Kim thought of every detail: sunglasses and fans for their guests, so they could "stay cool" and not be "blinded by their love". Kim's best friend Yana was their officiant, who spoke lovingly of the girls and their community. The ceremony included a ring blessing: Kim's brother Mark wove a red string through the crowd and both rings travelled on it, touched and imbued with positive energy and love from each person.

We have to take a moment to talk about the vows. Things went pretty smoothly until Kim, completely overwhelmed by emotion, barely made it through her words. She kept stopping, crying, laughing, breathing, and starting again. The crowd laughed and cried, until we were all a puddle of tears! Thanks Kim! After their vows were (finally!) read and the rings were set on each finger, they sealed their love with a massive smooch and a breaking of the glass.

The evening continued with cocktails, dinner, music, dancing and photo booth. WHAT A DAY!

After I arrived back in Montreal, a local cab driver asked me where I had come from. I told him I was at my best friend's wedding, to which he replied jokingly, "I'm sorry for your loss... she belongs to someone else now!" I thought more extensively about this. I wasn't losing a friend; I was gaining one. Kim, I know now more than ever how much you love Aoife, and you are always welcome with open arms! Thank you guys so much for trusting us with your big day. We had a blast shooting it.

We love you both and wish you many moons of happiness.
